El Monte Union High School District

The English Learner Program provides services for students who have a language other than English in their home and are not yet fully proficient in English.

The goals of the program are to support students in:

1) achieving proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing in English proficiency as rapidly as possible through intellectually rich, developmentally appropriate learning experiences provided via designated and integrated English language development instruction;

2) attaining a level of English proficiency comparable to a native English speaker and have the opportunity to develop a high level of proficiency in their home language and/or other languages; and

3) receiving the needed support to access the standard instructional program, including courses required for graduation and college admission.
